Calgary’s psych-rock trio Stolen Moon have gone through numerous transformations and changes throughout the years. Pushing boundaries on what people think of them as a band has helped reshape and reform what Stolen Moon is now.

Their recent release, Pleasure and Pain is their homage to their transformations as a band and what they want to be known for. From gaining the support of their peers, to the uncertainties of being a three piece band, Stolen Moon have navigated finding their high-energy sound that is here to make their mark on Calgary’s music scene.

Calgary punk rockers, WACK, are playing this year’s Sled Island All Ager Rager on April 6th, 2024: an event that is new to the festival and the city. While Sled Island is known for their all-ages programming, with the loss of many venues there is a gap in youth programming at the festival that needs to be bridged, with the All Ager Rager being the perfect first-step solution for youth to find their new up-and-coming favourite band, while making new friends with other music lovers in the process.

Leading the pack in the youth local music community is WACK. Fresh off the release of their new debut EP Lateral Adderall, we caught up with the group to learn more about their high-energy sound that is making waves in the music scene and what we can look forward to when we catch the band live.

Montreal musician Devon Welsh has released his highly anticipated album Come With Me If You Want To Live, a menacing album title that shows the songwriter putting up a fight and not backing down in his artistic endeavours. Released via American Dreams, the former member of defunct band Majical Cloudz steps into the experimental pop terrain with luscious synth hooks and a reverberating sincerity.

New York-based, Shanghai-raised artist SEBii is sharing his latest evolution of his hyperpop/rap sound on his sophomore album VVSS2 and with it he continues to expand the lore that surrounds his project. With origins stemming from online, SEBii’s project has started taking on a tangible life of its own, immersing himself in the real world with live sets in LA for the iconic Boiler Room x Subculture party and more. He’s also gained recognition from pioneers in the industry, collaborating with the likes of Ashnikko, Travis Barker, and Umru - in addition to praise from Anthony Fantano and Playboi Carti.

We sat down with SEBii to talk about where it all began and how his universe continues to take shape.

Vancouver based indie/rockers La Lune are new on the scene, blending shoegaze with nostalgic emo sensibilities. We first discovered the band after stumbling across their high-energy live performance video at Green Auto. The video is drenched in their signature greyscale aesthetic, taking us back to the found footage era of the 90’s when live concerts were filmed on a DV cam. Portland indie/rock band The Fourth Wall write profoundly emotive songs that face the complexities of life head-on. Their next album Return Forever will be released on March 15, 2024 via DevilDuck Records, leading with newest single “Darkness of Heart”. We caught up with band leader Stephen Agustin to chat about the evolution of The Fourth Wall, inspirations, and how they achieve their expansing sound.

Alt/rock powerhouse band, The Jins, made their return to Calgary, Alberta - the hometown of lead vocalist/guitarist Ben Larsen - to shake off the cold temperatures during Big Winter Classic. Joined by band members Jamie Warnock (drums) and Hudson Partridge (bass), we grabbed a table at the tattoo art and thrasher magazine laden walls of the venue to talk about how the band are taking flight across North America on tour.

Reverie sat down with Pascal and Yolande of Pony Girl, Ottawa’s premier art pop outfit, to chat about their latest release, Laff It Off, out on Paper Bag records. The last time they were in town was during the sunny days of 2023’s Sled Island; this time, enjoying the chinook filled weekend of a particularly beautiful Big Winter Classic, where they rocked one of Calgary’s newest venues, BLOX Art Centre.  We had the chance to take a peek into their 10 year evolution, what’s in their notes app, and really explore the lustrous cinematic and sonic universe that is Pony Girl.

Calgary math-rock outfit, Oranje, weaves compact, start-stop tracks rooted in jazz through a refreshing, punk lens. We had the chance to chat with Joseph, Andres, and Mike of Oranje about their genesis and progression, the evening before they rocked Commonwealth as part of Big Winter Classic, a staple in Calgary’s festival scene, playing alongside Vundabar and Slow Down Molasses.

Laroie, the moniker of Gab Godon, is a Montreal based singer-songwriter who’s flourishing career has inspired all eyes on her as we anticipate her next music moves. The latest grooves she revealed was her EP Tragedy back in March. We sat down with the emerging artist during OSHEAGA’s 2023 edition of the festival to hear about her experiences performing on the Montreal circuit, where she’s headed off to next, and the evolution of Laroie.

Alberta has a long history of folk festivals and singer-songwriters and Edmoton band Baby Jey are joining forces to breathe new life into the genre. REVERIE sat down with Jeremy at CJSW 90.9 FM in Calgary to talk about the artistic process behind the album and his fascination with the extraterrestrial.
