Toronto skate-punk outfit Shiv and the Carvers have released the debut single from their upcoming EP Tell Me You Love Me Again, coming out from Twin Fang Records this March.
The new track “Danger Girl” showcases everything that makes the roller derby scene alumni so magnetic, highlighting the band’s fierce hooks and high energy. The single was inspired by Wheatus’ “Teenage Dirtbag,” Blink-182’s “Josie,” and other 90s and noughties “songs about women who are out of the singer’s league,” lead vocalist Shiv Scott shares.
“Danger Girl is a queer love song about falling in love with a woman that you know is going to break your heart,” says Scott. “The “Danger” is the gamble of getting your heart broken, but knowing that it's worth every bit of pain.”
"Danger Girl" also marks the recorded debut of the band’s new bassist Annie Jane Marie, formerly of Dilly Dally. What started as Shiv Scott's solo project has now evolved into a full-band powerhouse, with guitarist Nicole Maxwell, bassist Marie and drummer Mike Wiznuk giving Scott's explosive vocals and strong foundation.
The accompanying video for “Danger Girl” pays tribute to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, with the band visiting film landmarks like Sonic Boom and Casa Loma while trekking across Toronto. The video also features a scene-stealing cameo from Canadian punk icon Bif Naked as their manager, along with more of the band’s collaborators like Roach and Camille Leon making appearances.
Ahead of Valentine’s Day, Shiv and the Carvers is also offering up a sickeningly sweet treat for fans: pre-save Tell Me You Love Me Again before February 14th and you’ll receive a handmade Valentine's card direct from the band.
